All Saints’ Church Maldon

Welcome to the website of All Saints’ Church, Maldon.   We hope that, whether parishioner or not, you will browse through these pages and find something of interest and inspiration.   The site will be improved at every opportunity and will certainly be updated at least monthly so keep coming back to visit.   If you have any ideas for improvement, please let me know.   I am always open to criticism – just as long as it is constructive and not the other kind!   I accept that this site is not highly sophisticated – it is created by me, a rank amateur in such matters and with a view to doing the job as economically as possible.

Our doors are open to everybody of all faiths – all are welcome in this house.   Come along to one (or more) of our services or any of the many events held in this beautiful old building.   We guarantee you a warm and friendly reception.

These pages will contain most of the information which appears in our monthly ‘Parish News’ and weekly ‘Sunday Link’ publications.   I am grateful to Editors Peter Clark (Parish News) and Adrienne Knight (Sunday Link) for their willing co-operation in this venture.

I should be pleased to receive articles and news for publication.   If you scroll to the bottom of this page you will see that we have a guestbook and would welcome your comments.   -   John Clifford – Editor/Webmaster

This Month's Update

My apologies for this late update which is due to the fact that I have been on a three week holiday to the U.S.A.   Things are now (almost) back to normal.   John Clifford ~ Editor

Thanks

Brenda and Gift would like to thank everyone who donated items for the Tombola Stall, and to those who kindly supported us at the Fete. We raised £126; our sincere appreciation to you all, for making it a great success.

All Saints' Chior

July was a very exiting month for the choir with the successful concert in church on the 12th, an occasion when a sum in excess of £1500 was raised for the organ refurbishment.

A big thank you must be given to the following who donated extremely generous prizes for the raffle: Ansell Butchers, Blue Boar Hotel, Blue Strawberry Restaurant Hatfield Peveral, The Bull Great Totham, The Continental Café, The Oakhouse and Spa Noele.  Please endeavour to support them with your patronage.

On Sunday 20th the Senior and Junior Choirs were invited to sing Choral Evensong in Chelmsford Cathedral and they were pleased to be supported by many friends from All Saints’ who made up a congregation of about sixty people. The service went very well and I print below the letter received from the Canon Precentor.

A Church Near You

Not only can you find us here on our very own website but we also have a page on the excellent "A Church Near You" site.   I constantly update this so you can get all the latest news about services and events at All Saints'.   To find our specific entry, click on this link:  http://www.acny.org.uk/venue.php?V=6487&P=1   The site currently lists over 16,500 Cof E churches in England with details of location, including maps and services held;  searches can be carried out by town or postcode.   This is very useful if you are travelling and wish to find somewhere to worship.   To get to the site home page click on:  http://www.acny.org.uk/   ~  JC

OUR PARISH LOGO – WHAT CAN YOU SEE IN IT?

The cross is supreme over everything, reminding us of the sovereignty of Christ and that He is King of Kings and Lord of Lords.   He has saved us all by his death on the cross and all people must look to him to be saved.   We are reminded of our enormous task to share His good news with others and never to rest until those around us know and love Him.

The circle reminds us of this world-wide task we have.   It is the round world the Church must win for Christ.   Every Christian must take their part in loving and serving others through their daily work and their free time.   The world will accept only a Church that serves.   We have no rights, only duties.

The circle stands for a halo as well, reminding us that we are to be ‘saints’.   Not the plaster, fragile sort but ordinary folk dedicated to God’s service in today’s world.   We are very conscious of our limitations and so we strive to be better Christians by worshipping more regularly, praying and studying our faith.   This is all part of practical holiness which the halo suggests.

Hidden away within the circle is a fish.   The fish was a symbol of the early Church in days of persecution when the cross was a dangerous sign to show.   The Greek initials of “Jesus Christ, God’s Son, Saviour” make up the Greek word “fish”.   We use it to show that we are not alone in being ‘saints’ but part of God’s great family – the Christian Church – here in Maldon and in the world.

The Friends of All Saints

Just think, for a few pounds a year you can become a Friend of All Saints, Maldon and help to maintain this unique Church for future generations.

The Friends of All Saints (FoASM) is the charity set up in 1997 with the single purpose of creating a fund for the maintenance and improvement of the building that has served Maldonians for nearly nine hundred years.

FoASM is a separate resource from the day to day running of the Church and relies on the generosity of individuals and businesses in the Parish.
